Gipuzkoa before it was Gipuzkoa: First Settlers
PLAY AND LEARN > TESTS
Gipuzkoa has been inhabited for a long time. The oldest human remains found to date bring us back in time almost 200,000 years in the Lezetxiki Cave.
Tools have also been found as well as decorative objects and remains of the animals that they hunted, including deer, bison, horses and bears, both in open-air settlements and in cave dwellings.
Moreover, in some of these caves there is evidence of cave paintings (the horses and bison of Ekain and Altxerri) and ornamental objects (the Praileaitz pendants) which appear to indicate the ceremonial or magical character of what we now call prehistoric art.
